What to expect from your first laser treatment

An educational walkthrough of how laser-based skin treatments are assessed and delivered at Klinik Amisi — from consultation to aftercare.

If laser is new to you, the first appointment can feel unfamiliar. This article explains what happens before, during, and after a session at Klinik Amisi. It is general education only — your own plan will depend on a doctor-led skin assessment.

Before the session

Laser energy interacts with skin differently depending on tone, texture, and history. Before any treatment, our doctor reviews:

  • Your skin type, current routine, and any active concerns
  • Past treatments, medications, and known sensitivities
  • Recent sun exposure and any planned exposure in the next two weeks
  • Medical conditions that affect skin healing

Based on this, our doctor may recommend a specific laser modality, defer treatment, or suggest an alternative. Every treatment at the clinic starts with this assessment first.

During the session

Laser sessions are typically short — most take between fifteen and thirty minutes. Eye protection is provided, and the area is cleansed beforehand. You may feel warmth, tingling, or a mild snapping sensation depending on the device. This varies between individuals and between treatment areas.

Our doctor or trained clinician stays with you throughout. If you find a setting uncomfortable, we adjust before continuing.

After the session

Mild redness or warmth in the treated area is common and usually resolves within hours. Your specific aftercare instructions will depend on the modality used, but standard guidance includes:

  • Avoid direct sun exposure where possible
  • Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily
  • Skip retinoids and active acids for a short window if instructed
  • Avoid heat-based activities (sauna, hot yoga) for a day or two

We’ll schedule a follow-up to review your response and decide on next steps.

A note on expectations

Skin biology is individual. The number of sessions, the spacing between them, and how visible the change feels — all of it depends on you. Our doctor will talk this through honestly during your consultation, including which results are realistic for your skin.
