What it is
Medical Weight Management at Klinik Amisi is a doctor-led clinical programme for adults seeking supervised support with weight. It combines a structured medical assessment, an individualised plan and ongoing follow-up. Where clinically appropriate, the plan may include a GLP-1 receptor agonist — a class of anti-obesity medication — alongside lifestyle, nutrition and activity guidance.
This is not a walk-in prescription service and is not framed as a cosmetic shortcut. The programme is built around clinical eligibility, medical safety and follow-up. Patients without a clinical indication, or whose profile is not suitable for the available approaches, will be advised accordingly.
A doctor consultation is the starting point for every patient, before any medication or treatment plan is considered.
How it works
The programme is structured around three elements: assessment, plan and follow-up.
Assessment includes a focused medical history, current medications, weight and BMI measurement, and a discussion of relevant lifestyle factors such as eating patterns, activity level and sleep. The doctor will also screen for conditions that affect treatment choice — for example pregnancy, breastfeeding, certain endocrine or digestive conditions, or personal or family history of certain cancers.
Where it is clinically appropriate, the plan may include supervised pharmacotherapy with a GLP-1 receptor agonist. These medications act on appetite and satiety signalling and are prescribed at a starting dose that is gradually adjusted. They are not suitable for every patient. Where medication is not appropriate, the plan focuses on lifestyle elements and clinical follow-up, and on referring on if the patient’s needs sit outside our scope.
Follow-up reviews are scheduled at intervals set by the doctor. Reviews typically include weight and measurement checks, screening for side effects, and any dose adjustments.
What to expect
Before your consultation
Come prepared with a list of any medications and supplements you take, any relevant medical history, and an honest sense of your goals and what you have tried before. If you have recent blood tests or medical reports, bring them. Avoid making any independent medication decisions based on social media or online sources before your consultation.
During the consultation
Expect a structured conversation rather than a quick prescription. The doctor will work through your medical history, take measurements, discuss your goals, explain the available approaches and their risks, and decide together with you what the next step looks like. If medication is being considered, you will be informed about the expected side-effect profile, the dose schedule, the cost framework and the follow-up plan before any prescription is issued.
After starting the programme
If medication is part of your plan, you will start at a low dose and review with the doctor at scheduled intervals. Expect ongoing focus on lifestyle — eating patterns, protein intake, hydration, activity, sleep — alongside the clinical side. Report any unusual or persistent side effects to the team.
Recovery and downtime
Medical weight management is not a procedural treatment, so it has no procedural downtime. The clinical experience for patients on supervised pharmacotherapy is typically shaped by side effects rather than recovery — nausea, reduced appetite or gastrointestinal symptoms can occur, particularly when starting or increasing a dose. These are monitored and managed through your follow-up schedule. Significant or persistent symptoms should be reported to the team between visits.
Who is this for
The programme is typically aimed at adults who are clinically eligible for supervised weight management support, who have engaged with diet and exercise alone, and who want a doctor-led approach rather than self-medicating from informal sources.
You may be a candidate if you:
- Have a BMI in the medically eligible range for weight management support
- Have weight-related health concerns and want clinical guidance
- Are willing to engage with follow-up appointments and lifestyle work
- Want supervised, monitored care rather than self-prescription
- Understand that medication, where appropriate, is one part of a broader plan
- Have been screened and deemed clinically suitable by our doctor
Considerations and contraindications
Medical weight management — particularly where pharmacotherapy is considered — is not appropriate for everyone. GLP-1 medication is generally not used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in patients with personal or family history of certain endocrine cancers, in patients with certain pancreatic or severe gastrointestinal conditions, or where there are interactions with current medications that have not been reviewed. Some patients are better served by referral to another clinical service. Always inform our doctor of your full medical history, current medications and any prior weight management treatment during your consultation, so the team can decide together with you whether this programme is right for you.
