Karisma

Recombinant human collagen and hyaluronic acid hybrid biostimulator — designed to support skin quality and texture, often considered for early prevention and acne scar improvement.

What it is

Karisma is an injectable hybrid biostimulator that combines recombinant human Type I collagen with hyaluronic acid in a stabilising matrix. It is offered at Klinik Amisi within the skin pillar and is positioned around supporting skin quality and texture rather than adding volume.

Because the collagen used in Karisma is recombinant — produced through laboratory biosynthesis — it may be relevant for patients who prefer a non-animal-derived option compared with equine-derived collagen products. It is part of the broader collagen-stimulating treatment options at the clinic, alongside Linerase and Sculptra.

A consultation is required before the first session. Our doctor will review your skin condition, medical history and goals before recommending whether Karisma is appropriate.

How it works

Karisma is delivered into the upper layers of the skin using fine needles. The recombinant human collagen component provides a structural input that the skin can incorporate, while the hyaluronic acid component supports hydration in the surrounding tissue. Together, the components are positioned around supporting fibroblast activity and the skin’s own collagen and elastin renewal over time.

The combined outcome across most patients is a gradual improvement in skin quality, texture and resilience over the course of sessions, with the option to focus on specific concerns such as mild atrophic acne scarring where appropriate. Individual results vary.

What to expect

Before your treatment

Your first visit begins with a consultation. We will discuss your skin concerns, medical history, current skincare, any past injectable treatments and any medications including blood thinners. To reduce the risk of bruising, we may suggest avoiding fish oil, high-dose vitamin E and similar supplements for several days before your session, where it is safe to do so.

During the session

The skin is cleansed and a topical numbing cream is usually applied for around 20 to 30 minutes. The doctor then injects Karisma across the planned area using small, controlled placements. Sessions typically take 30 to 45 minutes including numbing time. You may feel mild stinging or pressure during the injections.

After your treatment

You may see small bumps at the injection points immediately afterwards — this is expected and usually settles within 24 to 48 hours. Mild redness, swelling or pinpoint bruising is also possible. Avoid heavy makeup for the rest of the day, and skip strenuous exercise, saunas and very hot showers for 24 hours. Daily broad-spectrum SPF 50+ is part of the long-term plan.

Recovery and downtime

For most patients, downtime is mild. Surface bumps typically soften within a day or two, while any bruising can take a few days longer to fade. Avoid strong actives, exfoliants and facial massage for at least 48 hours, and follow your doctor’s specific aftercare advice. Improvement in skin quality builds gradually over the course of sessions and the weeks afterwards, and individual results vary.

Who is this for

Karisma is typically considered by adults thinking about early skin maintenance, by patients who prefer a non-animal-derived collagen source, or by those with mild to moderate concerns around skin texture or atrophic acne scarring. It suits patients comfortable with injectable treatments and willing to follow a structured plan.

You may be a candidate if you have:

  • Adults 25+ considering early skin maintenance
  • Mild to moderate atrophic acne scars
  • Early signs of declining skin quality or texture
  • A preference for non-animal-derived collagen
  • Willingness to commit to a course and follow aftercare
  • Realistic expectations about gradual, cumulative change

Considerations and contraindications

Karisma is generally not offered to patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, who have active skin infection, open wounds or cold sores in the treatment area, who have a history of severe allergic reactions to any component of the product, or who have certain autoimmune or bleeding conditions that need medical clearance first. Recent dental work, acute illness or planned major events within a few days of the session may also lead our doctor to reschedule. Always disclose your full medical history, medications and supplements during consultation so the right product — or no treatment at all — can be recommended.

Frequently asked questions

What is Karisma?
Karisma is an injectable biostimulator that combines recombinant human Type I collagen with hyaluronic acid and a stabilising matrix, marketed under what is described as NEOSILK technology. It is designed to support skin quality and texture rather than to add volume.
How is the collagen sourced?
The collagen used in Karisma is recombinant human collagen, meaning it is produced through laboratory biosynthesis rather than from animal sources. This may be relevant for patients who prefer a non-animal-derived option.
Is this a filler?
No. Karisma is a collagen and hyaluronic acid biostimulator, not a volumetric dermal filler. It is designed to support skin quality and texture rather than to add bulk volume or change facial proportions.
Is the treatment painful?
Topical numbing cream is applied before the session to keep the experience comfortable. Most patients describe mild stinging or pressure during the injections.
How quickly will I see a difference?
Some patients notice changes in skin quality within a few weeks, with continued improvement over the course. Acne scar improvement, if applicable, builds more gradually. Individual results vary.
How long do results last?
Improvement from a full course can typically last around 6 months for many patients. Maintenance sessions are usually part of the long-term plan. Your doctor will outline a realistic schedule at consultation.
Are there any side effects?
Common short-term effects include small bumps at injection points, mild redness, swelling or bruising. Our doctor will go through the full risk profile during consultation.
How much does it cost?
Pricing depends on whether you take a single session or a course. Please consult our team for current rates.
