X-Wave Cellulite Treatment

Acoustic shockwave treatment that helps soften the appearance of cellulite on the thighs, buttocks, tummy and arms — with no downtime.

What it is

X-Wave is a non-invasive cellulite treatment from BTL Aesthetics that uses acoustic shockwave technology — sometimes called targeted pressure waves — to help improve the appearance of cellulite on the body. At Klinik Amisi, it is offered as part of our body pillar for adults who want help addressing the dimpled or uneven texture commonly seen on the thighs, buttocks, tummy and arms.

Cellulite is influenced by the structure of fibrous connective bands beneath the skin, fat distribution and circulation. X-Wave works on this underlying tissue mechanically rather than removing fat. It is more accurately described as a texture- and tone-focused treatment rather than a weight-loss or fat reduction tool.

A consultation is required before any first session so our doctor can assess the area, your goals and your overall medical profile, and confirm whether X-Wave is appropriate for you.

How it works

The X-Wave handpiece delivers controlled acoustic pulses into the tissue beneath the skin. These mechanical waves are intended to help soften the fibrous septae that pull the skin downward into a dimpled pattern, while also stimulating circulation and lymphatic activity in the area. Over a course of sessions, this is intended to help support smoother surface texture and firmer-looking skin.

Because the treatment works through gradual tissue remodelling and circulation support, results build progressively across the recommended course rather than appearing immediately. X-Wave is often paired with body contouring or skin tightening protocols, as cellulite typically benefits from a combined approach.

What to expect

Before your treatment

Your first visit begins with a consultation. We will discuss the areas you want to address, your medical history, any blood thinners or supplements that affect bruising, and your goals. Please come with the area clean and free of heavy moisturisers. Drinking water in the days around your session supports the body’s circulation and clearance pathways.

During the session

You will lie comfortably with the treatment area exposed. A small amount of gel is applied and the handpiece is moved across the area in steady, sweeping motions. You will feel a strong, vibrating pulse — most patients describe it as a deep massage. Intensity can be adjusted for comfort. A typical session for one area takes 20 to 30 minutes.

After your treatment

You can return to normal activities right away. The treated area may feel warm and look slightly pink for a short time. Continue good hydration and a balanced lifestyle to support the result. Avoid very hot showers, sauna or intense friction on the area for the rest of the day if it feels sensitive.

Recovery and downtime

X-Wave has no downtime for most patients. Mild redness, warmth or a feeling of having been deeply massaged usually settles within a few hours. Light bruising can occasionally occur, particularly in patients prone to bruising or on certain medications. There are no marks or pressure lines from the device. Visible changes typically build gradually across the treatment course and for several weeks afterwards. Individual results vary.

Who is this for

X-Wave is typically offered to adults who want help with the appearance of cellulite on the thighs, buttocks, tummy or arms, particularly those already close to their target weight and focused on texture and tone rather than fat loss. It is also commonly added to body contouring or skin tightening plans.

You may be a candidate if you have:

  • Visible cellulite on the thighs, buttocks, tummy or arms
  • A focus on softening dimpled texture rather than weight loss
  • A BMI generally within a healthy or slightly above-healthy range
  • A goal of complementing fat reduction or RF tightening treatment
  • Realistic expectations about gradual, progressive change
  • Willingness to attend a multi-session course

Considerations and contraindications

X-Wave is generally not recommended for people who are pregnant or breastfeeding, who have a bleeding or clotting disorder, who are on blood thinners that have not been reviewed, who have a pacemaker, who have active skin infection, open wounds or recent bruising in the treatment area, or who have certain malignancies or systemic conditions. Always inform our doctor of any medications, implants and medical history during your consultation, so we can confirm whether this treatment is right for you.

Frequently asked questions

Will X-Wave get rid of cellulite completely?
No treatment removes cellulite permanently. X-Wave is intended to help soften and improve the dimpled appearance of cellulite gradually across a course of sessions. Maintenance sessions are often suggested afterwards.
Where on the body can it be used?
X-Wave is commonly used on the thighs, buttocks, tummy and upper arms — areas where cellulite typically appears. Suitability of any specific area is decided during your consultation.
How does it work?
The handpiece delivers acoustic waves into the connective tissue beneath the skin. These mechanical pulses are intended to help soften fibrous bands, stimulate circulation and support collagen activity, which together can improve how the skin surface looks over time.
How many sessions will I need?
A typical course is 8 to 10 sessions, scheduled twice weekly. Visible change often builds gradually across the course and continues to develop for some weeks afterwards. Your doctor will recommend a plan based on your assessment.
Does it hurt?
Most patients describe the sensation as a firm, vibrating massage. It is not normally painful, though intensity can be adjusted for sensitive areas or preferences. No anaesthesia is required.
Can I combine X-Wave with other body treatments?
X-Wave is often paired with fat reduction (such as Vanquish ME) or RF body tightening, since it can complement contouring and skin firming protocols. Combinations should always be planned by your doctor.
Are there any side effects?
Common, temporary effects include mild redness or warmth in the treated area for a short time after the session. Less common effects are reviewed in your consultation. Tell our doctor if you have any conditions or medications that affect bruising.
How much does it cost?
Pricing depends on the area treated and the recommended number of sessions. Please consult our team for current rates and any package options.
